After a long break, the possibility of electricity export to Slovakia has been restored

Ukraine resumes auctions for the allocation of the cross-border capacity for electricity export to Slovakia. The corresponding auctions are held on the platform of Ukrenergo.

"The first auction for the allocation of the cross-border capacity in the Ukraine-Slovakia export direction starts today, July 21, 2023. The auction will offer participants 200 MW with a supply on July 23 from 9:00 a.m. to 02:00 p.m.," Ukrenergo said.

TES LLC, which booked only 10 MW out of the 200 MW offered, was the only winner.

Ukrenergo notes that Ukrainian electricity will be exported only during the hours of the day when there is an excess of generated electricity in the power system. For example, exports are possible in the morning and afternoon hours, when the production of solar power plants is the greatest. In the evening hours, when solar power plants are not working, and the power system has a limited ability of power plants to cover a high level of electricity consumption, there is still a need to import.

As ExPro reported, exports to Slovakia were restored due to the agreed procedure for allocation of the revenues from managing restrictions between Ukrainian Ukrenergo and Slovak SEPS. The procedure determined that the revenues received by SEPS based on the results of auctions for the allocation of capacity is distributed between SEPS and Ukrenergo in a ratio of 50:50.
