Power unit No. 5 of the Zaporizhzhya NPP was shut down after a mortar attack by the Russians

Power unit No. 5 of the Zaporizhzhya nuclear power plant was shut down again due to mortar hselling by the Russian occupiers. Only one power unit out of six is operating at the station - No. 6.

This was reported by the Energoatom press center.

" Today, September 1, 2022, at 4:57 am, due to another mortar shelling by the russian occupying forces at the Zaporizhzhya NPP site, the emergency protection was activated and the operating power unit 5 was shut down", Energoatom reports.

Also, , the ZNPP 330 kV backup power supply line used for in-house needs was damaged. In the transitional mode, the non-operating power unit 2 was de-energized with the start-up of diesel generators.

On September 1, Zaporizhzhia Administration reports that the Russians are shelling the pre-agreed route of the IAEA mission from Zaporizhzhia to the ZNPP. The UN advance team cannot continue the movement due to security reasons.
