Ukrenergo declared an emergency in the energy system on December 16

The Operator of the Transmission System, Ukrenergo, declared an emergency in the Unified Energy System of Ukraine from 09:00 AM on December 16, 2022, due to a massive missile strike on the energy infrastructure, Ukrenergo NEC reported.

"On 16.12.2022, as a result of a massive missile strike by the Russian Federation on the electric power infrastructure of Ukraine (thermal power plants, hydroelectric power plants, 330-750 KV substations at the main grid), over 50% of the consumption of the UES of Ukraine was lost, which, in accordance with cl. 2.4 of the Transmission System Code, determines the onset of a system emergency regime. At the same time, in accordance with the market rules (Section 9, cl. 9.1.2), we inform you about the occurrence of an emergency, starting in the billing period from 09:00 AM on 16.12.2022," Ukrenergo said.

On December 16, Russia again launched a massive missile strike on Ukraine's energy infrastructure. Some regions were partially or completely without electricity the Kirovohrad, Kharkiv, and Poltava regions. Emergency blackouts have been introduced throughout Ukraine.

The end of the emergency was announced on the evening of December 16.

"In connection with the termination of the emergency situation, in compliance with the requirements of cl. 9.1.3 of the market rules, we inform you that the last billing period for which calculations are made taking into account Chapter 9.2 of the market rules is 10:00-11:00 PM on December 16, 2022," Ukrenergo said.
