Ukrainian UGS facilities will undergo another stress test to confirm their reliability
Ukrtransgaz JSC, as the operator of gas storage facilities, and GTS Operator of Ukraine LLC will conduct another stress test to confirm the reliability of the gas transmission system and underground gas storage facilities to operate in a full-scale war and the termination of Russian gas transit. This was reported by the press service of UTG.
Similar tests were conducted in 2023. According to Naftogaz, the findings of these tests helped attract more foreign companies to store gas in Ukrainian UGS facilities. According to Naftogaz Group CEO Oleksiy Chernyshev, the test results will be made public before the start of the injection season at the end of April.
The assessment will be carried out by an independent working group, including representatives from the USAID Energy Security Project, the Secretariat of the Energy Community, the Joint Research Centre of the European Commission, GTSOU, Naftogaz, Ukrtransgaz, and international technical experts.
As a reminder, Ukraine offers up to 10 bcm of Ukrainian gas storage capacities to foreign companies. Last year, non-residents injected about 2.5 bcm of natural gas into the "customs warehouse" of Ukrainian UGS facilities. This year, Ukrtransgaz hopes to increase this volume to 4 bcm.
According to ExPro estimates, as of February 20, about 1.67 bcm of natural gas are stored in the "customs warehouse" of Ukrainian UGS facilities, of which almost 0.9 bcm belong to non-residents.
