Ukraine increased electricity imports by 65% in July
In July 2023, Ukraine increased electricity imports by 65% - up to 73.2 thousand MWh. The export of electricity fell by more than 7 times.

During July, Ukraine imported electricity from Slovakia (80.1%), Moldova (18.8%) and Poland (1.1%).

We will remind that on July 16, electricity was imported for the first time through the updated line from Poland (Khmelnytska NPP-Rzeszów), with a volume of 800 MWh. Imports from Slovakia increased by 2.2 times - up to 25.6 thousand MWh. Imports from Moldova grew by only 30% - to more than 18,000 MWh.
According to ExPro, the most significant volumes were imported at 4-8 p.m. Import of electricity in July 2023, per day, MWh In July, electricity was exported only on July 18 and 19 - 402 MWh each - to Moldova. The exporter was the company "D.Trading".

We want to remind you that from July 1, the Ukrainian electricity market will have new maximum prices. The increase in price caps for evening peak hours made it possible to increase imports precisely in this period of the day (which is the most scarce for the Ukrainian energy system).
According to ExPro, the largest import of electricity this year was in February - more than 140 thousand MWh.
The average price of imported electricity for this month, according to ExPro, was $179/MWh in the Slovak direction, $106/MWh in the Moldovan direction.
At the same time, it is expected that the price of imports will increase in July, as the supply structure has changed during the day (imports cover consumption during peak hours).
