Ukraine attracted additional €85 million for gas imports through the EBRD

Ukraine has attracted an additional €85 million through instruments of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) to purchase additional natural gas imports, Energy Minister Denys Shmyhal said.

The funds will be provided in the form of a grant from one of the European countries, with work on finalising the grant currently underway.

The funds are likely to be allocated to Naftogaz of Ukraine, which imports natural gas to ensure the heating season.

As a reminder, the Ministry of Economy previously reported a need for $100 million to import natural gas during the current winter.

As reported by ExPro, Ukraine imported 6.47 bcm of natural gas in 2025, the highest level in the past five years. The largest gas importer was the state-owned Naftogaz of Ukraine, with more than 5.7 bcm of imports, including volumes imported by Ukrtransgaz.
