Ukraine and Poland nearly double gas import capacity to 12.4 mcm per day
GTS Operator of Ukraine (GTSOU) and Poland's transmission system operator Gaz-System have agreed to nearly double the guaranteed firm capacity for natural gas imports from Poland to Ukraine, GTSOU reported on its website.
Starting from July 1, 2025, the guaranteed firm capacity will increase from 6.4 mcm to 12.4 mcm per day. Capacity allocation will be available as follows:
- Up to 6.4 mcm per day via monthly auctions;
- Up to 12.4 mcm per day via daily auctions.
"The Polish route is one of the key corridors for gas imports into Ukraine. Its role will continue to grow as Poland’s gas transmission system provides access to diversified sources of natural gas, including LNG from global markets," commented Ukraine’s Energy Minister Herman Halushchenko.
As a result, total guaranteed daily import capacity to Ukraine from the western direction (Poland, Hungary, Slovakia) will reach 63 mcm per day. An additional 3 mcm per day of firm capacity is available via the Trans-Balkan route for imports from Greece to Ukraine.
The Polish and Hungarian routes remain the most attractive for gas imports into Ukraine due to favorable transportation costs. In addition, the Polish corridor provides Ukraine with access to LNG terminals in Świnoujście (Poland) and Klaipėda (Lithuania), as well as Norwegian supplies via the Baltic Pipe.
