Ukraine and Moldova will be able to increase electricity exports to the EU - up to 900 MW

The maximum capacity of electricity exports from Ukraine and Moldova to the EU countries has increased to 900 MW. This was reported by the Ministry of Energy of Ukraine and NPC "Ukrenergo".

This is the result of cooperation between transmission system operators that are part of the Eastern Europe Capacity Calculation Region (EE CCR) and the Regional Coordination Center TSCnet.

"Increasing the maximum export capacity is an important step that will facilitate the balancing of the Ukrainian power system. It will also allow Ukrainian power plants to receive additional profit, which will allow them to direct additional resources to eliminate the consequences of Russian shelling and prepare for winter," said the Minister of Energy of Ukraine Herman Galushchenko.

As noted by the Ministry of Energy, electricity exports from Ukraine are carried out exclusively under conditions of a capacity surplus in the power system

"The new limit is valid until August 1, since in the future the maximum export capacity will be reviewed monthly. In the process of weekly assessment of the network status, the export volume may be adjusted in accordance with the requirements of operational security," said Vitaliy Zaychenko, Chairman of the Board of NPC Ukrenergo.

Since May 1, the maximum export capacity of electricity from Ukraine and Moldova to the EU countries was 650 MW. This was the decision of the ENTSO-E Expert Group on Calculations of Commercial Electricity Exchanges. Now the decision on the permitted export capacity to the European Union from the Ukraine-Moldova zone will be calculated by the transmission system operators included in the Eastern Europe Capacity Calculation Region. Namely, the TSOs of Poland, Slovakia, Hungary, Romania, Ukraine and Moldova.

As reported in ExPro, in June 2025 Ukraine increased electricity exports by 2.5 times, compared to the previous month - to over 237 thousand MWh.
