The situation with Energoatom and ECU may negatively affect electricity export - Zhupanyn
People's Deputy of Ukraine Andriy Zhupanyn believes that the situation with the Energy Company of Ukraine, which probably received an interest-free loan from the state Energoatom, may adversely affect the electricity export market. Deputies are already preparing an appeal to NEURC for clarification of the situation.
People's Deputy of Ukraine and Member of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Energy, Housing and Utilities, Andriy Zhupanyn, expressed this opinion in an exclusive comment for ExPro.
"I have a negative attitude to the idea of a single state trader. I don't see an issue with generation selling the generated power for export. In general, I don't see any advantage so far. This story may shake up the power export market, because a trader, without a resource, may be able to offer better sales conditions and win contracts, which, in principle, is good on the one hand, because we say this is a state trader. However, if the daily activities are visible to the public, we will know the terms of the contracts concluded. This is a different story. Actually, I very much doubt that we will know about it. I am afraid this could be another energy scam," Andriy Zhupanyn pointed out for ExPro.
Andriy Zhupanyn said that the deputies are preparing an appeal to NEURC and the state Energoatom on clarification of the situation with the provision of an interest-free loan and deferred payment for electric energy for Energy Company of Ukraine.
"We will now request information from Energoatom to find out whether certain exclusive conditions were actually provided for the trader. If this is true, then it greatly disrupts competition in the market. Any trader could work under such conditions... So far, there was no official confirmation of this information, only rumours. But these rumours are not unfounded. Moreover, we are currently preparing an appeal to NEURC to clarify this situation. From the outside, this whole situation looks very strange," Zhupanyn commented.
Also, according to the MP, Energoatom does not comment on the issue of cooperation with Energy Company of Ukraine.
"Energoatom does not comment on the issue of creating a state trader at all. Now, we will see if they provide the information. Because even now, in response to our requests (Ed. – requests from MPs), the company can write that under martial law this information is confidential," he added.
