The import of electricity in September decreased by almost 5 times

In September 2023, the import of electricity decreased by 4.8 times, compared to August - to 23.6 thousand MWh. At the same time, electricity export increased more than 500 times - from 204 MWh to 110.7 thousand MWh. This is evidenced by ExPro calculations.

60% of electricity exports were supplied to Slovakia, the rest - to Moldova (mainly for re-export to Romania). The largest volume of daily export was on September 8 - more than 6.4 thousand MWh. Exports in September became a record in 2023. In particular, 15% less was delivered in April.

In particular, in September electricity trade took place only across the Slovak and Moldovan borders. There was no export/import with Poland, despite the newly opened, upgraded Khmelnytska NPP-Rzeszów line. In total, the export of electricity exceeded the import by almost 5 times during the month.

At the same time, during the day, export and import were carried out at different hours. Ukraine sold electricity abroad mainly during the off-peak hours of the night and during the day, during the period of high generation activity at solar power plants.
