The government is launching pilot "green" auctions

The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine established an additional annual support quota for renewable energy producers for holding pilot "green" auctions for 2024. Also, the schedule for holding auctions for the distribution of the support quota for 2024 was approved. The corresponding decision was made at a meeting of the Government on August 13, reports ExPro.

"Today, the Government adopts a document implementing the practice of pilot auctions for the distribution of support quotas for RES producers. It is about the energy of the sun, wind, biogas, as well as micro- and small hydropower plants. We are testing the system of "green" auctions in order to launch it in full force in 2025," commented Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal.

The maximum price offer of the auction participant for 2024 is set at the following level:

- from the energy of solar or from the energy of the wind - 9 euro cents per 1 kWh;

- from other types of alternative energy sources (except solar radiation energy, wind energy, blast furnace and coke gases, and using hydropower - produced only by micro-, mini- and small hydropower plants) - 12 euro cents per 1 kW/h.

The additional annual support quota is determined in the amount of 110 MW, of which SPP - 11 MW, WPP - 88 MW, from other types of alternative energy sources - 11 MW. It is expected that the first power generation facilities put into operation as a result of the pilot auctions will start supplying electricity to the grid in 2025.

Also, the Cabinet of Ministers tasked the Ministry of Energy of Ukraine with the participation of the joint-stock company "Prozorro.Prodazhi", the state enterprise "Guaranteed Buyer" to ensure the organization and conduct of pilot auctions for the distribution of support quotas in accordance with the schedule of auctions for the distribution of support quotas for 2024.

In addition, the National Renewable Energy Action Plan for the period up to 2030 and the plan of measures for its implementation were approved.

"The document clearly correlates with European norms and standards. It aims to increase the share of "green" energy in gross final consumption to 27% by 2030," Shmyhal emphasized.
