The export of electricity from RES should become one of the significant elements of the Ukrainian economy

The export of "green" electricity should become one of the major elements of the future Ukrainian economy. However, this requires developing technical capabilities and modernizing legislation. UDP Renewables managing partner Serhii Yevtushenko stated this in a comment for ExPro.

"The export of electric power from RES should become one of the major elements of the future Ukrainian economy. In general, Ukraine declared its ability to export up to 7 GW of electricity. For this, it is necessary to develop our technical capabilities, to rebuild lines to Romania, Hungary and Poland, to increase their transit capacity," Serhiy Yevtushenko points out.

According to him, producers of electricity from RES are interested in exporting electricity, as the level of payments under the "green" tariff remains low.

"Ukraine has lost a significant part of export revenue from the sale of ore and metallurgical products. We need to replace it with something, and Ukraine has every opportunity to replace this revenue with electricity exports. For this, it is necessary to build lines, sign long-term contracts, modernize the legislation... Currently, RES producers are paid about 40-50% of the tariff, and accounts receivable continue to grow for the second year in a row. We would be ready to sell it under export contracts, if there were such an opportunity and the corresponding legal norms", - explains Serhii Yevtushenko.

As the managing partner of UDP Renewables points out, "green" manufacturers are interested in implementing market mechanisms, but the state itself is not interested in this yet.

"We are waiting for the introduction of a real market in Ukraine, because what we have now is a parody. If "Guaranteed Buyer" and "Ukrenergo" are not able to fully pay the bills, then why not allow us to enter the market and work there. At the end of the period of instability, we should smoothly return to the balancing group of the Guaranteed Buyer. It is necessary to help Ukrainian business to survive the war, and not, on the contrary, to complicate the situation," Yevtushenko notes.

According to him, European traders have long been interested in buying significant volumes of Ukrainian green electricity, as the domestic price on the Ukrainian market remains the lowest on the continent.
