Russia attacks oil pipeline infrastructure in western Ukraine

Russia attacked a critical infrastructure facility of the Naftogaz Group in western Ukraine on the morning of January 27, Naftogaz CEO Sergii Koretskyi said.

According to him, the strike caused a fire at the site, and the company’s specialists immediately shut down technological processes at the facility.

“For safety reasons, to protect people and prevent environmental pollution, the company’s specialists immediately stopped technological processes at the facility,” Koretskyi said.

This was already the 15th targeted attack on the critical infrastructure of the Naftogaz Group since the beginning of this month. The Brody City Council in the Lviv region reported that the attack caused combustion of oil products, leading to significant smoke. Later, schools suspended classes, and residents were urged to tightly close windows and avoid going outside unless necessary.

An oil pipeline runs through Brody as part of the southern branch of the Druzhba pipeline, which transports Russian oil to Slovakia and Hungary, countries that continue to purchase Russian oil.
