OKKO has put into operation a 20 MW energy storage

Fuel giant OKKO has put into operation a 20 MW energy storage facility. This is the first facility already put into operation, which is the winner of the special auction of NPC Ukrenergo for the long-term purchase of ancillary services. This was reported by the transmission system operator.

“Thanks to the special auction of Ukrenergo, one of the private companies has put into operation an energy facility that is critically needed for stable electricity supply. This is the result of the special auctions launched in the summer for the long-term purchase of ancillary services. The first energy facility within the framework of this cooperation between the transmission system operator and a private investor (the OKKO group of companies) was put into operation long before the deadline. This is an BESS with a total capacity of 20 MW,” Ukrenergo indicates.

As the acting chairman of the board of Ukrenergo, Oleksiy Brecht, pointed out, the fact that the new power facility was built and put into operation in less than six months testifies to the success of cooperation with investors and their trust in the Ukrainian system operator.

In August last year, the winners of the first special auction of Ukrenergo guaranteed the construction of 99 MW of new capacities to provide auxiliary services of frequency containment reserve (FCR) for a period of 5 years. These facilities should be launched this year by October.

As previously reported in ExPro, the winners of the first auction for the purchase of frequency containment reserve (FCR) for 5 years also include companies from the KNESS Group and the Cypriot PICI MANAGEMENT LTD.
