Naftogaz and SOCAR Energy Ukraine sign agreement on supply of Azerbaijani gas
Naftogaz of Ukraine and SOCAR Energy Ukraine (the Ukrainian subsidiary of Azerbaijan’s SOCAR) signed their first agreement on the purchase of Azerbaijani gas on July 24, 2025.
Natural gas is being delivered via the Trans-Balkan corridor along the Bulgaria–Romania–Ukraine route.
“This is not just a supply deal, it is a strategic breakthrough that will allow Ukraine to receive gas from Azerbaijan for the first time in its history. This means strengthening Ukraine’s energy security through diversification of supply sources,” SOCAR Energy Ukraine stated.
The volumes supplied are small, as this is primarily a test delivery.
“This is really about the ability to bring in actual Azerbaijani molecules, with a certificate of origin, and to test cooperation and operator costs in Bulgaria, Romania, and Moldova,” a Naftogaz source told ExPro.
