Moldova introduced a virtual reverse for all companies on the border with Ukraine

The Government of Moldova has approved the decision on the necessary changes to the legislation, which opens the possibility for all companies to use the virtual reverse (backhaul) service at the connection point with Ukraine.

This will allow Ukrainian companies to transport natural gas through the Trans-Balkan Corridor, from LNG terminals in Greece and Turkey, as well as gas from Azerbaijan. One may remind, earlier this mechanism was used mainly by customers from Moldova.

According to GTS Operator of Ukraine LLC, this step opens the opportunity for international partners to store gas delivered to LNG terminals in Greece or Turkey in Ukrainian underground storage facilities.

As reported by ExPro, from the beginning of January 2023, Moldova started re-exporting natural gas from the "customs warehouse" of the Ukrainian UGS, where it injected it during the past year. According to ExPro calculations, more than 28 mcm of natural gas were re-exported in the first 12 days of January.

The import of natural gas from Moldova stopped at the beginning of the year. In general, almost 110 mcm of natural gas were imported from Moldova to Ukraine in 2022.

From September 28, 2022, the Moldovan GTS operator confirmed the nominations for the supply of natural gas in the form of a virtual reverse with the Ukrainian GTS at the connection point Grebenyki.

From August 1, 2022, GTSOU increased the amount of natural gas measurement at the Grebenyki connection point from 3.96 to 6.12 mcm per day, thereby ensuring that Ukraine meets all the prerequisites for the launch of the Trans-Balkan Corridor.
