In January 2026, Ukraine imported record volumes of electricity
In January 2026, Ukraine reached record monthly electricity import volumes — over 894 thousand MWh. This is evidenced by preliminary calculations by ExPro Electricity.
This is the highest import figure during the period of the full-scale war.
Compared to December 2025, electricity imports increased by 40%. Hungary continues to account for the largest share — 45%. Overall, supplies increased across all directions except Moldova. In January, a record daily import volume was also reached — 41.9 thousand MWh.
As reported by ExPro, the level of utilization of import interconnection capacity has significantly increased — the number of hours during which it is used even at 100% is growing. This mainly concerns daytime hours and the evening peak. On an hourly basis, the largest increase in imports occurs during daytime hours (8:00–17:00).
Electricity exports in January 2026 were absent. Overall, exports have been completely absent since 11 November 2025.
A detailed review of foreign trade will be published in ExPro Electricity Monthly.
