In 10 days of August, Ukraine increased electricity imports by 2.3 times
In early August 2025, Ukraine increased electricity imports, in the first 10 days of the month 151.5 thousand MWh were already imported, which is 2.3 times more than the volumes in the first decade of July 2025, according to ExPro monitoring data.
In particular, the need for imports increased due to increased consumption in the power system due to the heat.
According to ExPro, the change in marginal prices in short-term market segments allowed for uninterrupted attraction of imported resources, emergency assistance is currently almost not activated.
In the first half of 2025, Ukraine imported electricity for a total amount of 165 million euros, according to ExPro monitoring data. In total, almost 1.3 million MWh of electricity was imported during this period.
According to ExPro Electricity, the most expensive imports were in February-March of this year, at average prices of over €180/MWh.
As ExPro notes, most electricity is imported during the “evening peak” hours - since the beginning of August, on some days, evening import capacity could exceed 1.6 GW. It is during these periods of the day that electricity in neighboring markets is the most expensive and can exceed €200/MWh.
Despite the increase in exports in the summer, import costs are significantly higher than export revenues.
