Government will deploy a network of mini-power plants in Ukraine

The Ukrainian Government is considering the launch of a system of mini-power plants to strengthen energy security.

This was reported in the Ministry of Reintegration of Temporarily Occupied Territories on January 4.

"In order to prevent a long-term failure of the power system, the Government is planning a number of measures to launch systems of domestic mini-power plants. Their purpose is to secure the main stations, to form a critical reserve and independence of energy generation," the Ministry of Reintegration said.

It is planned that mini-power plants will ensure the energy security of nuclear generation.

"They are small and do not require special maintenance. Twenty such stations can produce the power of one nuclear unit. For example, 100-150 MW is needed to start a nuclear unit. Generators do not reach such power, but mini-power plants will cope well with this task," the Ministry said.

Earlier, Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal indicated that Ukraine should build a decentralized energy system that will become less vulnerable to enemy attacks.

"The plans for energy decarbonization and green transformation remain relevant. The war made these challenges even more urgent. We will more actively use the potential of renewable energy: solar, wind, hydrogen generation, hydrogen technologies," the head of the Government noted.
