Gazprom cut gas transit through Ukraine

The daily transit of Russian gas to Europe through the territory of Ukraine fell by 22%, from 108 mcm to 75 mcm a day as of February 18, 2021, as seen from nominations by the Gas TSO of Ukraine (GTSOU) with for the Slovak GTS operator Eustream.

Thus, the supply of Russian gas to the Ukrainian GTS on February 18, 2021, slashed by 20%, or by 31 mcm less a day. Deliveries through Sudzha gas interconnection point were curtailed by 24 mcm less a day, from 83.2 mcm to 59 mcm a day, and deliveries through Sokhranivka gas interconnection point became by 7 mcm a day less, from 36 mcm to 29 mcm a day.

Gas supplies from the Ukrainian GTS to Europe have similarly declined. Thus, gas transit to Slovakia via Uzhhorod / Velke Kapushany decreased by 30%, or by 20.4 mcm less a day, from 68.8 mcm to 48.4 mcm a day. Gas transit to Hungary via Bereg virtual interconnection point decreased by 20%, of by 5.5 mcm less a day, from 27.6 mcm to 22.2 mcm a day.

Gas supplies to Poland remain stable, at about 11.2 mcm a day as of February 18. But, next day gas supplies to Poland fell 2.5 times to 4.4 mcm a day.

According to foreign traders, the reduction of Russian gas supplies to Europe may be another factor that keeps gas prices in Europe from falling. In addition, possible reductions in LNG supplies due to force majeure at the U.S. LNG terminals were also restrained the drop of prices for natural gas in Europe.
