Gas imports to Ukraine plummeted by 17 times since the beginning of November 2021 – down to 308 tcm, the lowest value since the end of June 2021, according to the GTSOU.

All gas is supplied from Hungary, while there are no supplies from other directions. It will be recalled that gas is imported from Hungary under the virtual reverse mechanism by replacing part of the export deliveries coming from Ukrainian underground gas storages.

During October 2021, Ukraine imported 155 mcm of natural gas from Europe, by 4.3 times less than in September 2021. Compared to October 2020, imports pf natural gas decreased by 3.7 times. Throughout the month, gas imports were stable, at about 4.97 mcm per day.

After the cessation of Russian gas transit to Hungary via Ukraine, Slovakia became the main import destination, from where Ukraine imported 116 mcm of gas in October 2021 (75% of all supplies), 3.4 times more than in September 2021. Deliveries from Hungary amounted to 37 mcm (24% of all deliveries), 16 times less than in September 2021. Also, 1.8 mcm (1% of deliveries) were imported from Poland, by 15.5 times less than in September 2021. According to data obtained by ExPro, almost all gas was imported by the stateowned NJSC Naftogaz of Ukraine.

During January-October 2021, Ukraine imported 2.5 bcm of natural gas, or by 6 times less than in the same period of 2020. The decline in imports of natural gas into Ukraine was because of record high prices this year. It is also the lowest in 6 years, when gas imports from Europe began. The main bulk of natural gas was imported from Hungary - 2.2 bcm (86% of all supplies), from Slovakia - 285 mcm (11%) and from Poland - 71 mcm (3%). A significant part of gas was imported by the NJSC Naftogaz of Ukraine, as well as by YE Energia LLC (at the beginning of the year for gas distribution companies).
