ECU plans to offer consulting services to investors in distributed generation

The state-owned energy trader Energy Company of Ukraine plans to offer comprehensive consulting services to investors in distributed generation at the project implementation stage. This will include the selection of technical solutions, the creation of economic models and support in obtaining the necessary permits.

In particular, ECU plans to launch one of the first aggregated groups in Ukraine, which will offer services for operational and commercial management of distributed generation facilities. These services will include load planning, dispatching, electricity purchase and sale and imbalance optimization. This was announced by Vitaliy Butenko, CEO of ECU, during the presentation of the concept of a national distributed generation operator at the ReBuild Ukraine 2024 conference in Warsaw.

“Distributed generation is key to the country's energy strategy and requires a systemic approach. Having experience in supporting Ukrainian and foreign investors in energy projects, ECU has made this a separate business area. We strive to shape a new energy landscape of Ukraine through distributed generation, increasing the reliability of the power system and ensuring stable income for owners and investors,” said Vitaliy Butenko, CEO of JSC “Energy Company of Ukraine”.

According to him, Ukraine’s transition to distributed generation faces several challenges, including complex technical issues, complex legal and regulatory procedures, a lack of expertise in the energy market, and a significant depletion of qualified human resources needed to develop, operate, and commercialize distributed generation projects. In addition, the emergence of numerous new participants in the Ukrainian energy market creates challenges for balancing and system stability.
