Balance of Power Market in March 2020: Nuclear Share Grew up to 60% and Renewables Exceeded 7%

The share of nuclear power in the overall balance of the Ukrainian electricity market in March 2020 constituted 59.9%, it is higher 3.7% than the indicator in March 2019; in the corresponding period, the share of renewables rose 2.4 times to 7.3%, according to the data published by the Ministry of Energy and Environmental Protection of Ukraine.

In March 2020 the NPPs generated 7.559 billion kWh which made up 59.9% in the market balance taking into account generation, imports, exports, and net power cross-border flows. In March 2019 the nuclear share constituted 56.2% (7.616 billion kWh).

Notably, in March 2020 the renewables share was 7.3% (923 million kWh) compared to 3% (408.9 million kWh) in the corresponding period of 2019.

At the same time, the share of thermal generation decreased dramatically (by 8.7%) to 29.5% (3.725 billion kWh) and the percentage of hydrogenation dropped by 1.4% to 4.5% (572 million kWh) in the whole balance.

The share of the export was 5.8% (732 million kWh) in March 2020, it was 2% higher than the indicator in 2019, the percentage of import in March 2020 made up 3.5% (443 million kWh), there were no import transactions in March 2019.
