Westinghouse Will Supply Six Sets of Nuclear Fuel Assemblies to Energoatom in 2019
International engineering corporation Westinghouse Electric Company will supply own-produced six sets of nuclear fuel assemblies for NNEGC Energoatom in 2019. Ukrainian company reported about it on March 6.
According to the data, four sets will be delivered to Zaporizhzhya NPP and two sets will be supplied to South Ukraine NPP. As at February 20, the first set was delivered to Zaporizhzhya plant. 19 sets (with 42 fuel assemblies WR in each) were supplied to Zaporizhzhya (11 sets) and South Ukraine NPP (8 sets) over 2014-2018.
As at February 20, 582 fuel assemblies are in operation in the reactor cores of six power units: unit №2 South Ukraine NPP (84 assemblies, the 30th fuel campaign); unit №3 South Ukraine NPP (163 assemblies, the 28th fuel campaign); unit №1 Zaporizhzhya NPP (84 assemblies, the 30th fuel campaign); unit №3 Zaporizhzhya NPP (84 assemblies, the 31th fuel campaign); unit №4 Zaporizhzhya NPP (42 assemblies, the 30th fuel campaign); unit №5 Zaporizhzhya NPP (125 assemblies, the 29th fuel campaign).
As ExPro reported, according to State Nuclear Regulatory Inspectorate of Ukraine, the nuclear fuel produced by Westinghouse and reloaded into the reactor core of the third nuclear unit of South-Ukraine NPP is being operated without critical remarks.
At the beginning of February 2019 the General Director of South-Ukraine NPP Volodymyr Lisnichenko stated Energoatom plans to reload the reactor core of the second power unit of mentioned plant by Westinghouse’s nuclear fuel this year.
NNEC Energoatom is the single company in the world managed to diversify nuclear fuel deliveries for Soviet-designed reactors VVER-1000. For now Westinghouse’s nuclear fuel is being operated in the power units of South-Ukraine NPP (№ 2, 3) and Zaporizhzhya NPP (№ 1, 3, 4, 5).
