Westinghouse delivered nuclear fuel to RNPP’s Unit №3
The American company Westinghouse delivered 42 assembles with nuclear fuel for Unit №3 (WWER 1000) of Rivne NPP, which will be loaded into the reactor in 2022.
This was announced on July 21, 2021, by the company's press center. At the same time, the company reported that 42 Westinghouse nuclear fuel assemblies in 7 standardized ISO containers arrived at the RNPP industrial site, where specialists carry out their input control.
According to Dmytro Galkin, Deputy Chief Engineer of the RNPP for Nuclear and Radiation Safety, the first fuel assemblies from this batch will be loaded into the reactor of the RNPP Unit №3 next year: "They will be operated throughout the fuel campaign. That is, every year fresh fuel TVZ-WR will replenish the core of the reactor of power unit №3. Thus, in four years the entire core of the reactor will be filled with Westinghouse fuel, - explained Galkin.
"So from 2025, Unit №3 of the RNPP will run entirely on American nuclear fuel." The NNEGC Energoatom reported currently 6 out of 15 NPP units operating on Westinghouse fuel within the framework of the Nuclear Fuel Diversification Program for WWER-1000 reactors: Units №2 and Unit №3 of the South-Ukraine NPP and four units of the Zaporizhzhia NPP.
