Ukraine’s imports of natgas for the first time edges out the domestic production
Yesterday, June 5, 2019, the Ukrainian natgas imports reached 58.3 million cubic meters, a record high since late November 2015, when Ukraine stopped importing gas from Russia. The import of gas from Europe for the first time exceeded the national production, which as of June 5, 2019, amounted to 56.8 million cubic meters, which was less than the volume of imported supplies by 3%, or by 1.8 million cubic meters, reports Ukrtransgaz , the operator of the national GTS.
For comparison, on June 5, 2018, the natgas imports by Ukraine were to 32.1 million cubic meters, while the country’s natgas production - 56.1 million cubic meters.
Ukraine is getting prepared for the heating season 2019-2020. Just on June 5, 70.8 million cubic meters of gas was pumped into the national underground gas strorages, which is 28%, or 20.1 million cubic meters, more than on this day of 2018. The total natgas volume in Ukrainian underground gas strorages has amounted to 11.75 billion cubic meters, which is 16%, or 1.92 billion cubic meters, more than on this day in 2018.
