Ukraine needs to import about 3.5 million tons of coal to weather the winter

Ukraine needs to import approximately 3.5 million tons of thermal coal during the heating season 2021-2022.

This was announced on August 30, 2021, by Energy Minister Herman Halushchenko.

"In addition, it is necessary to import about 3.5 million tons during the heating season in accordance with the schedule of coal accumulation," the Minister said.

At the same time, he noted that generating companies, of both the DTEK Energo and the PJSC Centrenergo, have started concluding contracts for coal imports.

According to Halushchenko, the price of electricity in the market already makes it possible to buy coal and produce electricity, sell it, and earn from it.
