The Parliament is considering a bill that will allow unblocking production operations at 34 UGV fields
The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine will consider bill No. 3438 on the resumption of issuing conclusions on environmental impact assessment (EIA), the press service of Ukrgasvydobuvannya reported on Facebook on June 17.
The company notes that the adoption of this bill is extremely important. Since mass gatherings are prohibited in Ukraine due to the coronavirus pandemic, production companies cannot hold public hearings in the regions where they are going to produce gas, which is the main condition for obtaining an EIA conclusion.
And without a conclusion, it is impossible to start well drilling. The start of production facilities’ construction and other important projects has been paused. This situation has been lasting for 2 months, while the country is losing gas and tax revenues, the press service of UGV reports.
The company notes that the draft law No. 3438 will allow online public discussions (in the form of written proposals), which will allow resuming issuing EIA conclusions in the near future, and continue the development of hydrocarbon fields in the future.
“The adoption of this bill will restore the procedures for environmental impact assessment that have been blocked since the introduction of quarantine.”For Ukrgasvydobuvannya this is the resumption of work on 34 gas condensate fields,” Oleksiy Serdyuchenko, Head of the Department Local Communities and Authorities Relations in UGV said.
