Olena Zerkal headed the judicial direction of Naftogaz in the Gazprom cases.
Adviser to the Chairman of the Board of Naftogaz of Ukraine NJSC, Olena Zerkal, led the organization and support of international arbitration and foreign judicial and enforcement proceedings of Naftogaz in its disputes with Gazprom and in cases against the Russian Federation. This is reported by the Communications Department of Naftogaz.
Zerkal received the corresponding functions in connection with the transformation of the organizational structure of the Naftogaz Group.
“The direction for which I am responsible at Naftogaz is extremely important both for the company and for Ukraine, since it is about the long-term goals of integrating our state into the world market for better business conditions and protection of energy security. Therefore, the work on the initiated processes and arbitrations will not stop, but will also increase, “said Olena Zerkal, adviser to the Chairman of the Board of Naftogaz said.
Olena Zerkal is Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary, has 25 years of experience as a lawyer in the public and private sectors.
In 2014-2019, as Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, Zerkal worked on European integration issues, in particular, visa regime liberalization with the EU, and represented Ukraine in the International Court of Justice and Arbitration in cases against Russia (on the financing of terrorism and racial discrimination, violations of the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea by Russia and violations of the immunity of warships and crew members). For two years, she was involved in the work of the Ukrainian team in negotiations on extending the transit of Russian gas to Europe after 2019, and also took an active part in the Ukraine-EU-Russia trilateral negotiations on the conclusion of “Winter packages” in 2014- 2015 and 2015-2016.
As Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, Olena Zerkal was also involved in opposing the construction of the Nord Stream-2 gas pipeline.
