NEURC Decreased Obligations of Grid Operators to Buy Electricity Losses from 80% to 50% in DAM
The National Energy and Utility Regulatory Commission of Ukraine decreased the obligations of TSO NEC Ukrenergo and the operators of distribution systems to buy the volume of electricity losses in the day-ahead market (DAM) from 80% to 50%. The decision was made at the regulator meeting on November 20, 2020.
“We are decreasing (the above-mentioned obligation – ed.) to 50%, basically, it is a market approach,” commented the Head of the Commission Valeriy Tarasyuk on the decision. According to the draft of the NEURC’s decision, the new volume of electricity losses purchase will come in force from November 21, 2020.
In accordance with the grounds for the decision, the necessity of grid operators’ obligatory participation in the DAM has been down since the liquidity of the market segment was up.
As per the data of SE Operator of Market, in October 2020 the distribution system operators formed 39.8% of demand for electricity in the DAM of the Integrated Power System of Ukraine, and they created 23.9% of demand in Burshtyn TPP Energy Island, the percentage of Ukrenergo’s demand in the DAM of the IPS of Ukraine constituted 9.4% and 4.9% in Burshtyn TPP Energy Island.
