Naftogaz of Ukraine sees no reason to continue old gas contract with Gazprom
Naftogaz of Ukraine sees no sense and benefits in continuing the old gas contract with Gazprom. Andriy Kobolev said so during the 5th Ukrainian Gas Forum.
"It is difficult for me to imagine why the Ukrainian side might be interested in extending the old contract. If the Russian side says that they want some conditions, other volumes, then it is logical for us to take a position and we take it, that it should be a new contract, based only on European Law, only with a new operator", he said.
Kobolev also noted that the new Gas Transmission System Operator of Ukraine submitted to the Russian a draft interconnection agreements concerning the issue of network connection.
According to the Head of Naftogaz of Ukraine, it would be possible to discuss the available capacities, the amount of capacities required by Gazprom, the term, tariffs, only after signing the documents.
"I don't see any sense for the Ukrainian side to go for any other surrogate options," he added.
Earlier, The President of Russian Federation Vladimir Putin said that Gazprom would sign a gas transit contract with Ukraine if it implements European legislation by the end of the year. Otherwise, Gazprom is ready to extend existing gas contract.
