Kernel plans to invest $ 248 million in 7 biopower plants on sunflower husk

Kernel company, Ukraine's largest producer of sunflower oil, plans to invest $ 248 million in 7 thermal power plants that will generate electricity by burning sunflower husks.

Yuriy Pugach, Director for Assets Management of the Kernel company, told about this in an interview with (online news agency).

"In 2021, we are finalizing projects to generate renewable energy at our oil extraction plants. In total, we plan to launch 7 thermal power plants. In total, they will burn up to 481 000 tons of sunflower husk to generate about 700 000 MWh per year. The total amount of investments is estimated at $ 248 million,”  Yuriy Pugach said.

According to Kernel’s spokesman, the company expects EBITDA from projects at $ 52 million a year. According to him, boilers with a capacity of 10 MW-17 MW will be installed at the company's sunflower oil extraction plants.
