January-August 2020 transit of Russian gas dropped by 42%, down to 34.8 bcm

During January-August 2020 transit of Russian gas dropped by 42%, down to 34.8 bcm, compared to January-August 2019,as reported by the press service of the Gas TSO of Ukraine LLC (GTSOU).

At the same time, due to the launch of virtual connection points on the western border of Ukraine, the volume of physical supplies of Russian gas is less than the volume of transit, as part of gas is replaced by imported volumes.

In particular, in the first 8 months of 2020, 30 billion cubic meters were physically pumped to Europe, which was 86.5% of the total volume of transit. According to the GTSOU, the Gazprom fully pays for the reserved capacity, while using it by only 80%.

There were 32.4 bcm of natural gas transmitted in the western direction (36% less than last year), in particular, 23.9 bcm to Slovakia, 5.9 bcm to Hungary, and 2.6 bcm to Poland.

In the trans-Balkan direction, transit of natural gas through Ukraine amounted to 2.33 bcm (73% less than last year). Of those, 1.87 bcm were pumped to Moldova and 0.46 bcm to Romania.

During August 2020 Russia pumped 4.9 bcm yjtough Ukraine, of which 2.87 bcm were physically supplied. The rest is replaced by imported volumes.
