Gas reserves in Ukrainian UGS reached 21 billion m 3

As of October 13, 2019, gas reserves in Ukrainian underground gas storage facilities (UGS) reached 21 billion m 3. The company informed on web-page, in the operational information of Ukrtransgaz JSC.

"We are ready to protect the energy independence of our country next winter - the volumes of gas in UGS of Ukraine approached 21 billion M 3," – reported the head of Naftogaz of Ukraine NJSC Andriy Kobolev on his Facebook page.

Ukrainian UGSs are already filled by 68%, which is a record high over the past 10 years. This figure is by 4.4 billion m 3 or 27% higher than the corresponding figure of the last year.

Since the beginning of October, 594.6 million m 3 of gas have been pumped into underground storage facilities, which is twice less than in the same period in September 2019. In October 2019, the average daily gas injection is 45.7 million m 3.

It should be recalled that according to the plans of Naftogaz, for the stable running of the heating season, at the beginning it was necessary to accumulate 20 billion m 3 of gas in the gas storage facility in case of interruption of gas transit from Russia from January 1, 2020. Ukraine has outstripped the plan by about a month, and currently holds 21 billion m 3 of UGS.
