For the 9 months of 2019, the metallurgical sector consumed 2.12 billion cubic meters of gas

In January-September 2019, gas consumption by the metallurgical complex of Ukraine amounted to 2.12 billion m 3, which is 2.6% or 56 million m 3 less than in the corresponding period of 2018.

In September 2019, metallurgical enterprises consumed 208 million m 3 of gas, which is 16 million m 3or 7.8% less than in September 2018 and 23.4 million m 3or 10.2% less than in August 2019.

The highest monthly consumption indicator was in July 2019 - 294 million m 3, which is 28.6% or 65.4 million m 3 more than in July 2018, as well as 29.4% or 66.8. m 3 more than in June 2019.

Despite the low prices for natural gas during 2019, the consumption of gas by the metallurgy is lower than last year. This is explained by the worldwide trend towards a decreasing the cost of finished products, as well as an increasing prices for iron ore, which led to a reduction in output, and led to decrease in gas consumption. In addition, at the end of September, the Dneprovsky Iron & Steel Integrated Works and the Dneprovsk Metallurgical Plant (PJSC DMP) announced a shutdown of the main production facilities.

As ExPro reported, chemical industry for the 3 quarters of 2019 increased gas consumption by 39% - to 1.64 billion cubic meters.

Expro Reference:  In 2018, the metallurgical industry consumed almost 2.9 billion m 3 of gas, which is 7% more than in 2017 (2.7 billion m 3). Metallurgy is the largest sector of Ukrainian industry in terms of natural gas consumption.

Overall, in January-September 2019 the Ukrainian industry consumed about 8 billion m 3 of gas, which is 100 million m 3 less than in the same period of 2018.
