Energoatom and Ukrenergo jointly tested ZNPP’s Unit № 2 for ancillary services

On April 16-17, 2021, the NNEGC Energoatom together with the NEC Ukrenergo conducted tests at Unit №2 of the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant (ZNNP) for a possibility of providing ancillary service of a frequency restoration reserve (FRR), as reported on April 19, 2021, by the press services of the NNEGC Energoatom and the NEC Ukrenergo.

The NNEGC Energoatom indicated that at 00: 00-18: 00 on April 17, 2021, the ZNPP’s Unit №2 was unloaded to a capacity of 600 MW. After the tests, the power unit was returned to the design capacity, and then switched it to its normal operational mode.

The press center noted that the next step to enter the market of ancillary services would be to obtain a certificate for the power unit, and enter it into the Register of ancillary service providers.

According to the NEC Ukrenergo, similar tests will be conducted in the future at NPP Units №1 of the ZNPP and at NPP Unit №2 of the Khmelnytskyi NPP. "15 operating NPP power units of an installed capacity of 13,835 MW will potentially be able to provide the power system with about ± 300 MW of FRR," NEC Ukrenergo explained.
