DTEK launches the biggest in Ukraine 200 MW solar power plant

DTEK Renewables, the subdivision of energy holding DTEK, has commissioned the biggest in Ukraine Nikopol Solar Power Plant (Dnipropetrovsk Region, Nikopol District) with capacity of 200 MW with alternative current. As ExPro’s correspondent is reporting, the opening ceremony of the plant took place on April, 19.

“Today is the special day not only for DTEK but also for the whole Ukraine. It’s a big step towards energy independence and future of our energy sector. Today we are opening the largest solar power plant in Ukraine… DTEK is looking confidently into the future of our company, the Ukrainian energy sector, and the whole nation”, stated CEO Maxim Timchenko.

The “green” electricity output started on March, 1. As of 19 April, the solar power plant has generated 45 million kWh. According to the DTEK’s press service, Nikopol SPP is among the three biggest solar power plants in Europe.

The plant occupies the territory of 400 hectares and consists of 750 thousand solar panels produced by Chinese companies Seraphim Solar System and Trina Solar, and the invertors produced by Chinese firm Shenzhen Kstar Science and Technology. The plant operation will allow to cut CO2 emissions by 300 hundred tons a year.

As ExPro reported earlier, DTEK started the construction of Nikopol SPP at the beginning of October, 2018. The company invested EUR 230 million into this project. The partner in this solar project was Chinese company China Machinery Engineering Corporation (CMEC).

According to the National Energy and Utility Commission, the plant is planned to generate 289,36 million kWh per at the feed-in tariff of 15.03 Euro cents per one kWh. Mr. Timchenko stated that DTEK planned to invest over EUR 1 billion into solar and wind renewables by 2020 to increase their overall renewable energy capacity to 1 GW.
